Welcome, and thank you for your interest in my work. With the recent announcements surrounding the artwork for the new Highmark Stadium, I am honored to share my comprehensive proposal for the Buffalo Bills Bison Monument—a vision rooted in contemporary realism and the enduring, unbreakable spirit of Bills Mafia.
As the runner-up selected from an international pool of 145 submissions, my proposal presents a monumental bronze design capturing the raw, anatomically accurate power of the American Bison. For fans interested in the nuance of monumental art, the imagery shared here represents an early concept design. Because artists compete for dozens of major commissions, these initial submissions serve as a powerful starting point rather than a finalized blueprint.
While the selection committee ultimately chose a highly stylized aesthetic for the plaza, my pitch champions a hybrid design approach. To address concerns that realism can feel stagnant or overly traditional, I outline a contemporary take on realism. This approach doesn’t sacrifice meticulous detail or anatomical accuracy; instead, it keeps the design and style fresh, modern, and dynamic—a living aesthetic designed to naturally evolve and refine as a project progresses into its fully realized state. The result is a concept for a monument that doesn’t just occupy space, but actually feels alive.
Sports fans don’t just connect with architecture; they connect with energy, intimidation, and spirit. I envision a monument with a heavy, breathing presence that speaks directly to the fans as they approach the gates. Utilizing advanced digital sculpting in ZBrush alongside dedicated physical craftsmanship, every nuance of this design is meant to evoke raw, coiled energy. From the tactile weight of the thick winter coat to the lifelike muscle definition tensed beneath the surface, the goal is to craft a giant beast that feels as though it could step right off its pedestal. Furthermore, this dynamic presence is designed to transition seamlessly into the night, serving as a cutting-edge canvas for the stadium’s game-day atmosphere.
The true power of any living creature lies in its gaze. As a sculptor specializing in bringing contemporary bronze to life, my primary focus in this design is capturing the soul behind the eyes. For this proposed monument, the eyes are meticulously planned to be the focal point of the fan experience. Crafted from CNC-milled stainless steel, undergoing a rigorous polishing process, and finished with a black PVD and ceramic coating, these eyes would act as mesmerizing mirrors. They would reflect the surrounding sea of fans and the stadium itself, creating a profound, tracking gaze that forges an immediate, emotional connection with everyone who locks eyes with it.
Participating in this highly competitive selection process was a profoundly enriching experience, and I have immense respect for the Bills’ ownership, the selection panel, and the legacy they are building. Stadiums are living campuses that naturally evolve and expand over time. As my studio continues to develop and design other massive, high-profile corporate monuments, this proposal remains a proud testament to the power of breathing life into bronze.

A stadium monument must command the plaza from hundreds of feet away, while captivating the fans standing right beneath it. For those who feel traditional realism has grown tired or stagnant, my approach offers a dynamic alternative: a hybrid style that merges precise anatomical accuracy with fresh, contemporary detail styling. My creative process begins with a powerful, unmistakable silhouette capturing the heavy, grounded posture of the American Bison, but this is far from a static, conventional form. Instead, it is an animal caught in a moment of intense, coiled energy. By balancing raw power with an inviting, majestic presence, the gesture of the sculpture is designed to evoke the resilient, unyielding spirit of Buffalo itself.
To further elevate this vision, casting the sculpture in stainless steel is a striking option. This material strikes a deliberate balance: it introduces a sleek, modern aesthetic that interacts beautifully with nighttime stadium lighting, yet it retains a profound, breathing sense of realism without an ounce of compromise to the anatomy or the living presence of the piece.
Fans don’t just look at traditional bronze; they feel its presence. To achieve true emotional resonance, I don’t just sculpt the surface—I build the animal from the inside out. I meticulously map the massive bone structure and heavy musculature that gives the bison its imposing weight. Over this anatomical foundation, lifelike details are meticulously crafted: the coarse, heavy texture of the winter mane, the vascular tension of veins pulsing beneath the skin, and the scarred, weathered reality of the hooves. This commitment to contemporary realism invites Bills Mafia to step close, rewarding them with breathtaking, tactile details that ground the monument in reality.
Building upon the successes of my previous collegiate and corporate monuments, this bison represents a deep dive into organic, raw realism. By leveraging advanced digital sculpting environments like ZBrush for intricate section studies and anatomical mapping, I am able to push the boundaries of detail before the physical clay enlargement even begins. This hybrid approach of cutting-edge technology, hands on clay sculpting on various scale maquettes and traditional investment casting ensures that the final bronze is visceral and emotionally charged. It is designed to be more than a stadium statue—it is an enduring, timeless legacy built to weather the elements alongside the fans for generations.
This Zbrush sculpt serves as a detailed section study, giving you a preview of the quality and craftsmanship you can expect in the final project. This level of intricate detail is the standard set for the final enlargement and refinement process.

When engineering a monument of this magnitude for a passionate fanbase, the choice of medium and style dictates how the community will receive it. From the very beginning of this project, my proposal was anchored in a commitment to traditional investment casting and contemporary realism—principles that history and public sentiment have repeatedly proven essential:
An overly abstract or stylized design often struggles to resonate with fans on a visceral, emotional level. Bills Mafia deserves a bison that embodies the raw spirit and power of the team—feelings that a realistic, anatomically powerful representation naturally evokes.
History has consistently shown that highly stylized or abstract public art can be deeply polarizing and is rarely universally embraced. A monument grounded in contemporary realism is a unifying choice, inherently designed to resonate with the widest possible audience, avoid controversy, and bring the fanbase together.
Fabricated architectural structures can sometimes lack the deep authenticity and intricate, tactile craftsmanship that sports fans respect. Investment casting, with its meticulous, hand-finished process, ensures a high-quality, enduring monument that reflects the team’s commitment to excellence.
The Buffalo Bills bison monument should be a landmark that stands the test of time, not one tied to the fabrication trends of a specific era. A realistic and detailed bronze sculpture matures with the environment, becoming a universally cherished symbol for generations of fans.

To create a monument that truly feels alive, traditional bronze casting must be paired with modern, high-tech engineering. The focal point of this sculpture—the eyes—were designed to transcend standard bronze finishing. Precision-milled from solid stainless steel using advanced CNC technology, these eyes undergo a rigorous polishing process before being treated with a specialized black PVD (Physical Vapor Deposition) and ceramic coating. This aerospace-grade technique transforms the eyes into deep, mesmerizing mirrors. Rather than a static gaze, the bison actively reflects the surrounding stadium and the fans themselves, forging an interactive, profound emotional connection with all who behold it.

From the inception of this design, I advocated strongly that the plaza required a single, monumental bison rather than a herd. A solitary figure embodies the Bills’ unbreakable bond, raw power, and unwavering spirit with absolute clarity.
A singular, massive figure avoids visual confusion. It serves as a clear, iconic symbol of strength that mirrors the most successful and intimidating mascots in sports history.
From a practical standpoint, a solitary bison allows for striking, dynamic photographs from any distance. It provides the necessary negative space for fans to creatively frame their shots and capture their own piece of the legacy.
With undivided focus on a single subject, the artist can dedicate meticulous attention to the anatomy and texture of a giant, crafting a true masterpiece without diluting the visual impact.
A single bison is not just a statue; it is a captivating centerpiece designed to dominate the plaza, perfectly suited for replica scaling and solidifying a lasting legacy for the franchise.

A successful stadium monument cannot be a static object; it must be a dynamic experience that shifts and evolves as fans approach the gates. While fabricated structures often lose their impact upon close inspection, a meticulously crafted bronze monument is designed to reward proximity.
From hundreds of feet across the plaza, the massive silhouette commands attention—an unmistakable, imposing symbol of power. As fans close the distance, the sweeping musculature and intricate patina variations become visible. Finally, within an intimate distance, the true mastery of contemporary realism is revealed: the coarse texture of the hair, the pulsing vascularity, and the mesmerizing reflection in the bison’s eyes. It is an immersive encounter that simply cannot be replicated by abstract forms.

For a monument to truly feel alive, it cannot look like a caged exhibit. The goal of this design is to seamlessly integrate the giant bison into the plaza, evoking the spirit of its native landscape without the visual interference of heavy architectural fencing.
To preserve the majesty of the artwork and ensure stunning, unobstructed photography for Bills Mafia, the design utilizes organic deterrence. By employing either a graceful, nearly invisible curve of low-iron tempered glass or naturally integrated landscaping, fans are naturally guided around the monument. This strategy eliminates the “stale, architectural” feel of traditional crowd barriers, ensuring a clean, focused, and timeless photograph for every fan while maintaining the powerful illusion of a wild beast standing proudly in its natural habitat.

During my presentation, I proposed a concept to further modernize the plaza experience: utilizing the bison as a canvas for dynamic light projection mapping. This approach is significantly more sophisticated than simply illuminating the sculpture with standard LED floodlighting. Because the creative workflow involves precise digital sculpting, the physical monument can be accurately 3D-mapped to accept highly detailed projections. This opens the door for immersive, stadium-controlled visuals—such as the illusion of a running herd or other high-energy, moving scenes—projected directly onto the anatomical contours of the sculpture. By merging traditional bronze with advanced optical technology, the monument becomes a living, breathing spectacle under the stadium lights.

A truly iconic stadium monument extends its legacy far beyond the plaza. Because this proposal was designed as a single, highly detailed figure, it possesses unmatched scalability. The design is engineered so that the primary monument naturally yields a large-scale master model—ideal for secondary, high-impact installations within club levels, VIP entrances, or training facilities.
Furthermore, the advanced digital-to-bronze workflow allows for exact, high-end miniature replicas to be cast. These are envisioned as exclusive collectibles, suite-owner gifts, and premium fan merchandise. This creates a profound, ongoing engagement stream for Bills Mafia—a scalable connection that abstract, fabricated installations simply cannot replicate.
